LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- One person is dead and another has been critically injured in a carjacking on the Strip that ended up in an accident in front of the Rio Hotel & Casino.

The accident happened at 11 a.m. Sunday at West Flamingo Road and Valley View. It was the result of a carjacking moments earlier in the valet of the Flamingo Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip.

Metro investigators said two men from California were loading their pickup at the Flamingo Hotel valet when another man jumped into the driver's seat. The two who had been loading the truck then jumped into the bed as the vehicle fled westbound on Flamingo.

The pickup ran three red lights on Flamingo and was sideswiped by a Ford Escape at Valley View and Flamingo as it went through a fourth red light. The two men in the bed were ejected. One died at the scene and the other was taken to UMC in critical condition. The alleged carjacker also was hospitalized with unknown injuries. The driver of the Escape and two passengers were treated and released.

Metro is continuing its investigation.
