HENDERSON, Nev. (KSNV & MyNews3) -- A graduation celebration bonfire turned into a nightmare for seven teenagers who were badly burned in an explosion.

The teens were celebrating their graduation from Basic High; fire investigators say a fuel barrel ignited and blew up.

Maddie Anderson was one of several Basic High seniors celebrating graduation at the bonfire. The Basic high senior found herself in the middle of flames after the explosion.

In a Facebook post Anderson wrote, "This has ruined and scarred most of our lives. Some of my closest friends will never be able to live their lives the same."

The bonfire mishap happened in a vast desert stretch five miles south of Horizon Ridge Road in Henderson. Clark County fire investigators say a teenage boy rolled a 55-foot diesel barrel near the edge of the bonfire. About 20 minutes later the drum of fuel exploded and seven teens found themselves burning, and far away from help.

Anderson posted on Facebook, "We are hurt. We could have died. Some are in critical condition, and you're worried about why we stood around the fire."

Fire officials say the teens had to drive themselves to the hospital. Friends said the graduates suffered burns all over their bodies.

Even though school is out, many who go to Basic High are talking about the graduation party turned tragedy.

"I heard a couple are in ICU right now. Hopefully they get better. Prayers go out to the family and them," Anderson writes on her Facebook page.

Anderson goes on to say in her Facebook post, "Going through this is probably one of the worst feelings in the world."

Friends of the victims say five of their friends are in the hospital. One girl has 85% burns all over her body.
