LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- Nevada Highway Patrol says a bicyclist was hit and killed near the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa.

The accident occurred just after 4 p.m. at Frias Avenue, which is near Las Vegas Boulevard and Cactus.

The driver of the car is blaming a gust of wind for hitting the bicyclist.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixon said a 41-year old man was riding with traffic on the outside lane and when the driver says the winds picked up and she accidentally veered into the bicycle rider.

Police said a Nissan passenger car struck the bicyclist and stayed on the scene until police arrived.

NHP is investigating. News 3 will have more information as details become available.
