LAS VEGAS (Las Vegas Sun & MyNews3) -- A man who was hit and killed by a car Thursday night while walking along Interstate 15 has been identified as 28-year-old Jared Palmer of Las Vegas.

Palmer was hit and killed by a car Thursday night while walking along Interstate 15, Nevada Highway Patrol officials said.

Trooper Loy Hixson said Palmer was struck by a silver Nissan Sentra at about 7:20 p.m. on the highway’s northbound lanes just south of Sahara Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials don’t know why or when he walked onto the highway, Hixson said.

The Sentra’s driver was rushed to University Medical Center; his condition was not known late Thursday.

The three rightmost lanes of Interstate 15 remain closed at the crash site while officials examine the area and clear debris off the road.
