Coroner identifies man killed in Thursday night red-light accident

LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- The Clark County coroner's office has identified a Las Vegas man killed when his car ran a red light Thursday night in the west-central part of the valley.

Royce B. Clark, 80, died of blunt force injuries in the car accident about 9:20 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Arville Street and Oakey Boulevard.

Metro investigators said witness statements and evidence at the scene indicated a 2002 Dodge Dakota was traveling east on Oakey Boulevard crossing Arville Street on a green signal when a 1997 Buick Park Avenue driven by Clark was traveling north on Arville approaching Oakey on a red signal.

The Buick entered the intersection on the red signal resulting in an impact with the Dodge. The front of the Dodge struck the left side of the Buick. The Dodge rotated counterclockwise and came to rest east of the intersection facing west. The Buick rotated counter clockwise and came to rest east of the intersection facing northeast.

The driver of the Dodge was transported to UMC Trauma with non-life threatening injuries. Clark was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel.

The accident was the 63rd traffic related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction in 2013.
