(NBC News) House Republicans are once again set to vote to kill President Obama's Affordable Care Act.

The move comes on the heals of news that for the first time since Obamacare was passed in 2010, there is proof that it's working to reduce the cost of health insurance.

New numbers from New York show the Affordable Care Act is driving down the cost of health insurance dramatically.

Individuals in New York City who now pay a thousand dollars a month or more will soon get similar coverage for $308 dollars.

The cost is dropping because of the individual mandate, everyone having to buy coverage, including young people less likely to make health claims.

Obamacare is also forcing insurance companies to compete.

"On the exchange, it's one stop shopping and you can look at all the carriers and all rates and that drives competition in the market," explains Georgetown University's Professor David Cusano.
