LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com)--
A man apparently collapsed from a medical episode and died this afternoon in Ice Box Canyon at Red Rock National Recreation Area.
According to Metro's watch commander, a person called police about 1:45 p.m. to report that their father had fallen.
Search & Rescue found a man dead about a mile from the parking lot into the Ice Box Canyon trail.
A woman and and her father visiting Red Rock, and an EMT helped perform CPR on the victim for 45 minutes until he was pronounced dead by a Metro officer.
The watch commander said it appeared to be a type of medical episode.
Metro airlifted the body from the canyon about 3 p.m.
Ice Box Canyon is on the northwest side of the Scenic Drive.
According to the Associated Press, Lt. Mark Reddon said the man, whose name has not been released, likely died of a heart attack, stroke, seizure or other episode related to exertion.
Reddon said the man was dead by the time rescuers arrived. He added that both the man and his son appear to be locals.
It's not the first death this year at the popular hiking destination. In May, a teen fell about 80 feet to his death in the Calico tanks area after straying from his friends to do some exploring amid the craggy, colorful rocks.
