LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- The woman shot Friday night by Metro police has been identified as 49-year-old Tania Torres-Espinoza.

She has been booked in absentia and is in Sunrise Hospital recovering after she was shot about 9:30 p.m. by Metro officer as she stood in the intersection of Tropicana Boulevard and Celo Lane on the east side of the valley.

Torres-Espinoza was shot by an arriving Metro officer when she raised a large knife as the officer exited her squad car and was trying to get the suspect out of the busy street, according to a Metro news release.

She has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon (domestic related), assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and resisting a public officer with a weapon.

The incident started when dispatch received a call from a man who said his wife was armed with two kitchen knives. The husband said she had left their apartment and was heading toward East Tropicana and Pecos Road.

Torres-Espinoza is being treated at Sunrise Trauma for her wounds, the news release said.
