LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- A female hiker, who fell about 15 feet in a remote part of Red Rock National Recreation Area on Saturday, was retrieved by Metro Search & Rescue's helicopter.

Metro found the injured woman and a companion just before noon inside a rock crevice near the 6,100-foot level of the White Rock Springs Trail, miles away from the nearest roadway.

Two rescuers were lowered using a hoist and they pulled the pair up to safety.

Both were taken to an emergency landing spot and given first aid before the woman, 38, was flown to a medical facility with what police believed to be a head injury.

The rescue was Metro's 38th such mission this year.
