LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- A dramatic development in the shooting of an eleven year old boy who was shot in the head. The boy remains in critical condition at University Medical Center.

Police arrested that boy's mother on charges of attempted murder and child abuse.

It's been more than day now and the boy's condition at UMC has not improved. Neighbors were surprised about the shooting, but floored about the mother facing charges.

Now that the police activity has gone away from the scene where a child was found, another revelation, police say, the mom shot the child. Neighbors are blown away.

The shooting happened early Monday on Pebble Beach Boulevard, near Decatur Boulevard and Las Vegas Drive.

Authorities say two other children and another adult were in the home at the time, but they weren't physically injured.

"I sleep right above the bedroom where it happened. That bullet could have gone upstairs if she would have shot up. If we were sitting it would have went through us you know," said neighbor Marcos Diaz.

Shavon Aguilar, 31, aslo known as Shavon Carrillo is in jail after Metro investigated.

"The mother faces charges of attempt murder with a deadly weapon, child abuse with a deadly weapon and two counts of child abuse with mental harm," said Sgt. Jesse Roybal.

Mayra Aparacio, a mother who lives nearby says this is terrible.

"Honestly I don't know how a mom could do that to her own kids. I mean yeah, they drive you crazy, but not to that point," Aparicio said.

She says she has been praying for the boy's recovery.

"For me, it's kind of messed up especially for the little kid, and we're just waiting to see how he is doing," Aparicio said.

And while neighbors soak this all in, their attention right now turns to the child.

"It's not going to be the same you know, even if does survive, he's going to be a vegetable," Diaz said.

Police have not yet released details on what was behind the shooting.

While the child remains in critical, if that changes, so could the charges against his mother.
