Motorcyclist ejected, killed in collision with pickup

LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- A motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed was ejected and killed after hitting a pickup truck Sunday afternoon in the northeast part of the valley.

The Clark County coroner's office has identified the motorcyclist as 24-year-old Las Vegas resident Steven Michael Bennett. His official cause and manner of death is pending an autopsy.

Metro and eyewitnesses reported that a man on a 2002 Suzuki TL1000 was traveling east on East Carey Avenue about 4:20 p.m. when he hit the right side of a 2000 Dodge pickup that was turning left from westbound Carey to southbound North Carmel Street.

Bennett was ejected and hit the roadway. He was taken to UMC Trauma and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The four passengers in the pickup with taken to UMC with minor injuries.

The accident was the 35th traffic fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year. It remains under investigation.
