LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department honored its most outstanding employees just a few hours ago.

It was a very proud moment Metro officers and their families as they received awards from Sheriff Doug Gillespie.

More than 50 metro employees were recognized. Among them was Officer Jacob Meyer who received the meritorious award. He was off duty last year when he noticed three armed men wearing masks carrying bags of money, coming out of a bank. Unarmed and outnumbered, Officer Meyer notified North Las Vegas police dispatchers and followed the suspects as they tried to escape giving dispatchers information minute by minute.

“You just try to stay away a safe distance as you could to be able to see things you need to see,” Meyer said. “It's something that most Americans would do anyway, and to be recognized for that is really cool.”
