LAS VEGAS (KSNV/ -- After the verdict was announced Saturday evening in the George Zimmerman trial, people in downtown Las Vegas quickly learned about it, especially through social media.

While opinions were strong, there was a calm spirit on Fremont Street.

Many people were vocal about their disapproval with the verdict, saying that Trayvon Martin did not receive justice. Many also believe Zimmerman should have been held accountable for "something," and that the verdict sends a bad message.

"I think he outright murdered that boy but everyone seems to have their own opinions, so you hope for the justice system to do what they're supposed to do and apparently more people thought he was not guilty," said Tara Collamacine.

"I think that he should have at least gotten manslaughter, mainly because of his actions by getting out of the car led to someone's death. Maybe not second degree murder, but at least manslaughter because if you walk in a bank and you're robbing a bank and someone gets shot, you're still going to be in trouble for causing the bank robbery and somebody getting shot, so I think he should have gotten at least manslaughter," said Lamarian Daniels.

"I think everyone knows that they should be careful, and they should be careful walking the streets at night, and they should be careful following people around neighborhoods. I think everyone knows they should be careful, this just really reinforces the fact that you are not safe from everything at any moment, not even in your own neighborhood," said Ben Wong.

However there were some who did not want to speak to News 3 on camera who clearly believed the Zimmerman acquittal was the correct decision. they cited things such as self defense; and that wearing a hoodie up at night is "not a good idea."
