Storms bring outages; person hit by lightning, another rescued from water

LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- Just over 300 NV Energy customers were without power as of 11:10 p.m. Friday because of storms in the valley.

The two major outages were in the northwest, with 120 customers out near Painted Desert Golf Course near Washburn and Cimarron, and on the east side east near Sahara and Sloan where 151 were without power. A third outage left 44 customers without electricity near West Charleston and Durango.

The NV Energy outage website did not give a specific cause for the outages, but reported that each outage had been verified and crews were being dispatched.

In other reported storm-related incidents:

--A flood advisory has been issued for the east side of the Las Vegas Valley through 11:30 p.m. The National Weather Service said radar indicated that heavy rain was falling near Sahara and Boulder Highway at 10 p.m. One rain gauge showed .55 inches had fallen in the area in 30 minutes between 9:30 and 10 p.m. The NWS said minor street flooding is expected in the area over the next hour or longer. Affected areas included Flamingo and Boulder Highway, Charleston and Nellis and Frenchman Mountain.

--A tweet from Las Vegas Fire & Rescue at 10:30 p.m. said it had received reports that a person had been struck by lightning on the far east side, and that emergency crews were en route to the person who appeared to be okay.

--A water main break combined with rainfall to cause flooding at Eastern and Sahara on the east side.

--A person was rescued from their vehicle at Decatur and Oakey in a swift-water rescue by LV Fire & Rescue around 10:45 p.m.
