LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- The Clark County coroner's office has identified the motorcyclist killed Thursday evening when he collided with a car on Eastern Avenue near McCarran Airport.
Las Vegas resident Miguel Romero, 22, was killed in the accident about 6:40 p.m. on Eastern just south of Oquendo Road. The cause and manner of death are still pending.
According to a Metro release, evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle was traveling southbound on Eastern Avenue at a high rate of speed, in the middle travel lane, approaching a private driveway entrance/exit of McCarran Marketplace.
A 2014 Chevrolet Cruze was turning left from northbound Eastern into the private driveway on the west side of Eastern. The motorcycle overturned on to its right side from over-braking and hit the right rear tire of the Chevrolet in the middle southbound travel lane.
The Chevrolet came to rest on the northwest corner of the driveway access facing northbound. The motorcycle rider was ejected and came to rest in the outside southbound travel lane. The riderless motorcycle continued southbound on Eastern for 452 feet and came to rest in the outside travel lane.
The motorcyclist was transported to Sunrise Trauma with critical injuries and was pronounced dead after arrival.
The accident was the 40th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year. This collision remains under investigation.
