LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- The majority of the workers in the building where the D.C. Navy Yard shooting occurred were employees with no military training. A school in Las Vegas says there are things you can do to protect yourself.

The C.R.I. Counter Terrorism and Crime School teaches not only what to do on the offense but on the defense to disable a shooter's firearm.

If you don't see the gunman but hear shots fired, lock the door to your office, turn off the lights and look for a weapon.

If the shooter enters your room, many desks will not protect you, but three books could block a bullet.

The key, according to school instructors, is preparation and having the knowledge that could save lives.
