LAS VEGAS (KSNV – Changing gears from his first court appearance this morning, Strip shooting suspect Ammar Harris will plead not guilty to three murder counts.

Harris had said he wanted to plead guilty to the murder charges and sought to dismiss his court-appointed counsel at a hearing in the Regional Justice Center before Judge Kathleen Delaney.

Special public defender David Schieck said he wants Harris to have a competency hearing.

A grand jury indicted Harris on nearly a dozen charges related to the Feb. 21 shooting on the Strip -- including one count of murder for each person killed.

The shooting and subsequent crash killed cab driver Michael Bolden; his passenger, Sandra Sutton-Wasmond; and Maserati driver Kenny Cherry Jr. Several other people were injured in the accident.

The same grand jury also indicted Harris on three charges of sexual assault from an incident that happened three years ago.
