NORTH LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) —
A night of pre-Fourth of July festivities turns into tragedy for a North Las Vegas family.
Police say 18-year old Tyrell Melton was shot and killed and a 14-year old girl also was wounded around 11 p.m. Thursday near Commerce and Lone Mountain Road.
According to the homicide victim's family, somehow a fight spilled over from the North Las Vegas Independence Day Jubilee.
"Evidence suggests this is not a random act of violence and that there was a small congregation in the area,” said North Las Vegas Officer Aaron Patty.
Neighbors on the block say the house the victim left from is always getting called on for disturbances. But Melton's family says their home is no party place; they say their loved one was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Anyone with additional information regarding this case is urged to call the North Las Vegas Police Department at (702) 633-9111 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers
at (702) 385-5555.
