LAS VEGAS (KSNV – A Las Vegas man has been arrested and charged with murder and child abuse in the death of a 16-month-old girl.

Metro officers say Detrail Lamont Young, 24, shook the child left in his care, Quie’sear Mykeishasky Williams-Caraway, violently, causing her injuries. Quie’sear was transported from a residence in the 3600 block of East Owens Avenue to the UMC Pediatrics Emergency Room late Tuesday night and died from her injuries Thursday.

Quie’sear had been in the care of Young and his girlfriend, Danille Lewis, who obtained custody of the child when her mother in Los Angeles said she was unable to care for her.

Young told police that Quie’sear had been taken to UMC in May due to a severe allergic reaction. According to the police report, hospital staff said they suspected child abuse then, but since the injuries also were consistent with a reaction, they did not report it.
